Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the SX4 Diesel with the 1.3-liter diesel engine. The SX4 Diesel uses Fiat-sourced 90bhp, 1.3 Multi-jet diesel unit. The Super Turbo DDiS engine is mounted on the SX4, delivers 90PS of peak power at 4000rpm. It has been offered in three variants VDi; ZDi and ZDi (with leather upholstery). It has a claimed fuel economy of 21.5 kmpl (certified as per CMVR rules). SX4 Diesel is high on power and performance while being low on emissions. The suspension and brakes of the SX4 Diesel Super Turbo have been suitably modified to account for the heavier engine and the changed weight distribution of the car.

Maruti Suzuki SX4 diesel spy pics leaked
The car spotted is a demo car with decals all around. The DDiS and ZDi badge can be clearly seen, differentiating it from the petrol sibling. Apart from the badges, there are no visible changes to the exteriors that separate the diesel from the petrol. The mid-size Maruti saloon will use the same Fiat-sourced 90bhp, 1.3 Multi-jet diesel, that powers the Linea and the refreshed Tata Manza. While the SX4 hatchback in Europe uses Fiat’s 1.9 diesel engines, for India, the 1.3 Multi-jet was considered a more practical choice as it is essentially the same base engine as the one in the Swift and Dzire but with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT). Diesel SX4 is expected to cost around Rs 70,000 more than the existing petrol version.

Maruti SX4 Kaunching In February
Maruti Suzuki will launch the SX4 diesel in by end of February, 2011. The diesel variant of the SX4 will be powered by the 1.3L Fiat Multijet engine with VGT, producing 90hp of power and 200Nm of torque. However compared to its rivals, the Fiat Linea and Tata Indigo Manza, the SX4 diesel will be lighter by atleast 70kgs offering better performance. Maruti Suzuki will price the SX4 diesel very aggressively at an introductory pricing of Rs. 6.99 lakh for the VDi variant, which is just Rs. 10,000/- more than the VXi variant. The SX4 is among the few vehicles in the Maruti portfolio that isn’t performing to its expectations. By providing a diesel engine, it hopes to do what Hyundai did with the revamped Verna, if not better.
