The two new bikes from the Harley’s stable named SuperLow 883 and Iron 883 are priced at Rs. 5,50,000 and Rs. 6,50,000 (ex-showroom), respectively. At this price levels, expect to see a lot more Harleys rumbling on Indian streets. Bookings for the bikes have already been started from 1st Jan 2011 and will be the first 2 models to roll out of Harley’s CKD assembly facility in Bawal. The two bikes, SuperLow 883 and Iron 883 will use Harley’s traditional V-twin engine displacing 883cc. The SuperLow883 is a motorcycle with balanced and responsive handling and has a low seat height. Whereas the Iron 883 provides responsive handling, smooth clutch effort and durable carbon reinforced drive belt. Covered in black from fender-to-fender, the black powder-coat 883cc Evolution powertrain is tuned for performance with a broad torque curve and delivers plenty of power for city and highway riding

Harley-Davidson to assemble bikes in India

Iconic bikemaker Harley-Davidson will begin local assembly of bikes at its upcoming plant in Haryana in the first half of 2011.
Currently all Harleys are imported as completely built units thereby attracting the highest rate of import duties and tariffs. Local assembly will enable Harley to price its bikes cheaper by 20-25% and reach out to more premium bike buyers and enthusiasts. The new plant in Bawal, Haryana will be able to only assemble 200 bikes per year and the capacity will be increased as demand goes up.
At present the entry level Harley Davidson bikes is priced at Rs. 6.95 lakh but this figure is likely to go down by a couple of lakh as local assembly begins next year. The first bike series to be assembled in India will be the 883cc Sportster.
