Mahindra Unveiled Thar India.
Thar is for Jeep lovers and off-road enthusiasts. The Thar is a manual 4x4 machine coupled with a powerful CRDe engine 77 kw (105 BHP) & drive by wire technology which is capable of providing it variable speeds and acceleration. To handle this excess power, THAR CRDe's tough rigid ladder frame chassis has been optimised to enable crisp handling. There is also a direct injection (DI) version of the Thar meant for rural and semi-urban markets.
M&M has only launched the soft-top Thar at the moment and this variant does not come with air conditioning. Owners can however get a custom made canopy for their Thar and then get an aftermarket air conditioner fitted. We feel M&M should have also launched a hard-top variant with air conditioning even if it were to bump up the price a bit.
The Thar will be launched in Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Mangalore and Jaipur by end December and the rest of India by January 2011. The 2.5-litre 4X4 Thar is priced at Rs. 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) while the BS-III DI engine equipped Thar starts at Rs. 4.47 lakh (ex-showroom Jaipur). M&M will also offer a host of accessories for the Thar to add to its rugged appeal.
